Marian Stanley

Marian E. Stanley, age 90, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 14, 2014 at Green Hills Community in West Liberty, Ohio.

She was born in Bellefontaine September 27, 1923, to the late Elmer E. and Pauline (Able) Smith.

On July 14, 1943, she married David E. Stanley and he preceded her in death November 30, 1993. Marian was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald E. Smith and her sisters, Deloris Focht and Jocele Tussing.

Marian is survived by her daughter, Valerie (Gary) Hartzler of Mechanicsburg, Ohio; sons Brian Stanley of Bellefontaine and Stephen (Anita) Stanley of West Liberty; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a brother, Alvin (Bettie) Smith of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

Marian worked as a bookkeeper at Dee’s Department Store and later as a clerk at Myer’s Shoe Store, both in Bellefontaine. She enjoyed working with the women of the United Methodist Women at the Walnut Grove Church. Known for her baking, especially her cakes and cookies, Marian got great enjoyment from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Zanesfield Cemetery in Zanesfield, Ohio with Gene Marine officiating.

The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
