Marlene Ruth Varner, age 77, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio of complications from cancer.
She was born January 17, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Wellington Hoyt and Ruth Celia Shawhan Mitchell. Marlene was also preceded in death by her husband, Max Edward Varner, whom she married March 17, 1952, and by a grandson, Dallas Cole Varner.
Marlene is survived by her children, Roxan Casey, Russel (Laurie) Varner, Rebecca (Duane) Roach, Robin (Jim) Schneider, and Randal (Jodi) Varner; grandchildren, Shannan, Douglas, Jr., and Kyle Casey, Stephanie Casey Warner, Luke and Jeremy Varner, Chelsea Varner Heath, Travis and Trent Roach, Max, Karys, Reid and Myra Varner; step-grandchildren Cory and Wyatt Covington, Brian and Scott Schneider and Delanie Buck; eighteen great-grandchildren and eleven step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Carol (Jerry) Wisse and Bonnie (Dave) Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
Marlene was a homemaker who also worked for a short time at Rink's Department Store and LPZ Construction Co. both in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She took pleasure in her church family at the Rushsylvania Church of Christ of which she was a member for sixty five years. She also enjoyed Bellefontaine High School and The Ohio State University sports. But above all else on this earth, Marlene loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday, December 2, 2013 and one hour prior to the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Rushsylvania Church of Christ, with Pastor Lynn Cleaveland officiating. Interment will be at the the Rushsylvania Cemetery in Rushsylvania, Ohio.
The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
