Marvin Eugene Rostorfer, 88, of Jackson Center passed away Wednesday evening, March 8, 2017 at his home. He was born in Jackson Center on August 17, 1928 to the late William and Ivirene (Wierman) Rostorfer. Marvin was also preceded in death by a sister Alvena Kirtley, a brother Alvin Rostorfer and a son-in-law Tom Ricker.
Marvin was a 1946 graduate of Jackson Center High School and served in the US Army during the Korea War, where he was stationed in Germany. He worked as an insurance agent and Associate Manager for Western & Southern Insurance for ten years. From 1968 – 1983, Marvin was the owner and operator of a plumbing/heating/electrical business. He then went to work at EMI Corporation as a maintenance supervisor and retired in 1991. Marvin also served 20 years on the Jackson Center Village Council. He was a Past Master of the Jackson Center Masonic Lodge #458 F&AM, and Past Commander of the Jackson Center American Legion Scherer Post #493.
In 1977, Marvin was nominated for the Buckeye Award by Sheriff John Lenhart for rescuing two children from an upstairs window during a house fire. He was also honored for his heroism by the American Legion Scherer Post #493 and was presented with a plaque from Commander William Kaufman. Marvin and his wife Joyce were chosen Fans of the Year in 1985 by the Jackson Center Athletic Boosters. In 2000, Marvin was honored to serve as Grand Marshall for the Jackson Center Community Day Parade. The Jackson Center Education Foundation recognized Marvin in 2013 and he was inducted into the Jackson Center School Hall of Fame. Marvin was an avid country music fan. He played guitar and, in his younger days, sang in a musical group. He was noted for his yodeling talent. Marvin was a member of the Jackson Center United Methodist Church.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Joyce (Heintz) Rostorfer, whom he married on July 8,1951 in Jackson Center; his children: Sandra (Roy) Shuff, Sheryle (Ron) Ludwig, Michele Ricker, Marlene (Kent) Laughman, Timothy Rostorfer and Ted Rostorfer; 11 grandchildren: Patrick (Michelle) Shuff, Craig (Rachel) Ludwig, Ryan (Sue) Ludwig, Eric (Julie) Ludwig, Lisa (Eric) Hughes, Misty Ricker Reese, Ike (Jessica) Ricker, Justin (Ashley) Rostorfer, Casey (Seth) Dodds, Tyler (Amy) Laughman and Taryn (Tim) Walker; 18 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Pastor Rob Ulmer will officiate a graveside service on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 12 Noon at the Seventh Day Cemetery in Jackson Center with military honors provided by the Jackson Center American Legion Scherer Post #493.
