Mary Louise Baker, 88, of West Liberty, passed away at 1:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Mercy McAuley Center in Urbana. She was born in Urbana, Ohio on February 4, 1929 to the late Howard D. Koch and Avanelle (LeFever) Buck. On December 29, 1956, she married Harold Lee Baker and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1999.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen (Allen) Traucht of West Liberty, Barbara Watkins of Bellefontaine, and James E. Baker of Urbana; four grandchildren, Abraham (Danna) Traucht, Andra Loffing, Tara Watkins, and Justin (Sarah) Traucht; great grandchildren, Nathan, Stephen, Leslie, Jordan, Rachel, Isaac, James, Thomas, Matthew, Tristen, Keara, and Liam; sister, Chris Weirick; her nieces and nephews; and family friends, Louise and the late Pete Freeman and their children, Lisa, Christopher, and Michael (Susan).
Along with her parents, sisters, Donna Schetter and Wilma Alessio; and step-brothers, Cappy Buck and David Buck preceded her in death.
Mary was known during her school years as “Perky.” After high school, she attended the Bill Hixon’s Floral School in Cleveland, Ohio. Mary was a florist for Hillside Greenhouse and Mary Kathleen’s for 30 years. She was very active in several Bridge Clubs, The Tourist Club, the Home Extension Club, and the Monday Afternoon Club in West Liberty. Mary also enjoyed gardening. She trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior and loved her Bible study. She loved people and especially being with her family and grandchildren.
Pastor Dana Kidder will officiate a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield Road, West Liberty. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty.
