Mary E. Goodwin, age 92, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at Logan Acres in Bellefontaine with her family by her side.
She was born November 18, 1921 in Dayton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Rakos) Barney. She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Lee Goodwin and a brother, Joseph Barney.
On July 17, 1942 in Montgomery County Ohio, she married Thurman H. “Jim” Goodwin and he preceded her in death February 25, 2009.
She and her husband owned and operated the IGA Grocery stores in Belle Center, Ohio and Rushsylvania, Ohio for forty years.
Survivors include a son, James (Claudia) Goodwin of Daleville, Virginia; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Goodwin of Dublin, Ohio; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Stella E. Williams of Hudson, Florida and a special nephew, Joe Barney of Rushsylvania.
Mary was a member of the Rushsylvania Church of Christ and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling and was also a world traveler. She enjoyed keeping a daily journal and scrapbooking.
Calling hours will be held Monday, April 14, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine and Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 10 to 11 A.M. The funeral service conducted by Pastor John James will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Rushsylvania Cemetery in Rushsylvania, Ohio.
The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
