Mary Alice McConnell

Mary A. McConnell, age 102, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024, in St. Petersburg, Florida.

She was born May 17, 1921, in Monmouth, IL to her parents, (father), Asa Wallace Young and (mother) Luverne Marcia (Parker) Young. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. McConnell, and her son, Thomas E. McConnell.  

Mary McConnell is survived by her children:  Dr. Richard McConnell, Covington, LA, Dr. Lawrence McConnell, Seminole, FL, Jean (McConnell) Dorrell, Willisburg, KY, and Martha (McConnell) Honaker, Columbus, OH, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. 

Also, she is survived by her sister, Helen Dunn, Galesburg, IL and brother, Harold Young, Monmouth, IL, nieces, nephews, and extended family.   

Mary McConnell served as the librarian of Bellefontaine High School from 1963 to 1974. The McConnell family attended the First Christian Church on East Sandusky Avenue while residing in Bellefontaine.  After the death of Robert McConnell in 1974, Mary McConnell relocated to San Bernardino, CA where she was the librarian for Campus Crusade for Christ Ministries from 1975 to 1985.     

Friends may call on Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311. Following the visitation on Saturday, her son, Dr. Lawrence McConnell will officiate a funeral service at 12:30pm at the Bellefontaine funeral home and burial will follow in Huntsville Cemetery, Huntsville, OH.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Library at Bellefontaine High School, 555 E Lake Ave, Bellefontaine, OH 43311.
