Mary Lu Herring Meyer, age 98, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Wednesday night, April 9, 2014 at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine.
She was born in Logan County Ohio December 1, 1915, to the late Joseph B. and Agnes (Scott) Ricks. Orphaned at the age of 8, she was raised by the late James and Elizabeth Cooke.
Mary Lu married William G. Herring December 24, 1936, they divorced in 1958, and he preceded her in death. She later married Lawrence John Meyer July 22, 1967, and he preceded her in death January 22, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Vernon Herring; a sister, Frances E. Smith and a grandson, Rodney Joe Herring.
Mary Lu is survived by her sons, William Joseph “Joe” (Ruth) Herring of Bellefontaine; John “Ed” (Genny) Herring of McComb, Ohio, and Robert Stanley (Liz) Herring of Sidney, Ohio; nine grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren, and nineteen great-great-grandchildren.
Mary Lu was a 1934 graduate of Huntsville High School. She was an active member of the Belle Center American Legion Auxiliary and the Bellefontaine VFW Auxiliary. A member of the Disabled American Veterans, Mary Lu enjoyed making lap robes for the Dayton VFW and Veteran’s Hospital. She retired as a secretary from Brown’s Pest Control. Mary Lu was a member of the Belle Center United Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed camping, sewing and her family meant the world to her.
Calling hours will be held at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine Sunday, April 13, 2014, from 4 to 7 P.M., and one hour prior to the funeral Monday, April 14, 2014 at 11 A.M. with Minister Blake Kenner and Pastor Jim Burton officiating. Interment will be at the Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Ohio.
