On Christmas Eve December 24, 2014 Mary K. Misplon passed on to the next world. She was 89 years old. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Mary was born to Gail Hamilton Wollam and Harry Wollam in Hood River, Oregon on November 11, 1925. After Harry passed away in 1930, Gail and her daughters returned to the Hamilton family farm in Mercer County, Ohio near the town of Mendon.
Mary graduated from Mendon-Union High school in 1943 and attended Bowling Green State University. She graduated cum laude with a degree in biology in 1946.
She moved to Detroit, Michigan and went to work as a bacteriologist where she met a man selling vacuum cleaners door to door. He sold her an Electrolux and apparently swept her off her feet.
She and Gilbert (Gil) Charles Misplon were married June 30, 1951 in Detroit. They had four children: Richard, James, Julia and Mark. She encouraged curiosity, experimentation, love of nature, scholarship, honesty and responsibility.
She worked as a substitute teacher for the Bellefontaine schools and later served as Co-Director for the Logan County Board of Elections.
She was active in Kings Daughters, bridge club, Logan Piecemakers Quilt Guild, Boys Scouts, and Girl Scouts.
She was a very active and lifelong birdwatcher. Well known among the Ohio birding community, she was expert at identifying birds by both sight and song.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Gilbert Misplon; her son Richard Misplon (Kimberly Kradolfer) and grandsons Samuel and Benjamin; son James Misplon (Debbie) and grandchildren, Angie (Dave) DeGood, Kim (Dave) Graham, and John (Lisa) Abbey and great grandchildren, Courntey (Dan) Wallace, Taylor, Tiffany, Ella, Emma, and Henry and great great grandchildren, Emily, Bailey, and Corbin, ; daughter Julia Misplon (Anna Durbin) and grandson Langston; and son Mark Misplon (Kristina Runion) and grandsons Moses and Josiah.
She was preceded in death by her parents Gail and Harry and her sister Ruth.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 321 N. Main St. Bellefontaine with Deacon Harold Dipple officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery Columbarium, Bellefontaine at a later date.
