Mary Jane Westrick, 87, formerly of Avondale and Lakeview, passed away Thursday morning, March 26, 2015 at the Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Mary’s. She was born in Continental, Ohio on January 18, 1928 to the late Oliver and Ada (Donaldson) Burkhart.
Mary Jane married Urban Westrick on August 24, 1946 in North Creek, Ohio and he preceded her in death April 17, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son, Steven Lynn Westrick in 1965; brothers, Ora R. Burkhart, Ira L. Burkhart, Rhul L. Burkhart; and sisters, Dorothy H. Dobmeyer and Delores Niese.
Mary Jane was a graduate of Miller City High School and attended Tiffin Secretarial School. She worked as a type-setter for the Ada Herald and later worked as a secretary at Harvey Equipment in Lima. Mary Jane retired in 1992 from National Farmer’s Organization in McCartyville. She was a member of the Ada VFW Auxiliary. Mary Jane was an active in Catholic ministries through the Ladies Sodality and volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul store, all as a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point.
Mary Jane is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Wayne and Kathy Westrick of Ottawa, Ohio and Keith and Sheila Westrick of Celina, Ohio; five grandchildren, Eric, Adam, Matthew, Stephanie and Dawn; sixteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 214 West Pike Street, Jackson Center, on Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 2-6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 10:30am at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, 464 Madison Avenue, Russells Point with Fr. Harold Kist officiating. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to the mass. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada on Monday at 2:30 pm.
