Mary Kathryn Woodard, 95, of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at the Green Hills Care Center in West Liberty. She was born on September 19, 1913, in Liberty Township, Logan County, to the late George Cromer and Ida Ellen (Hartzler) Harr.
On May 23, 1948, she married Cyril C. Woodard in West Liberty, and he preceded her in death on April 13, 2005. Also preceding her in death was a brother, Kenneth Harr.
Surviving are her sisters-in-law, Joan Harr of West Liberty, Olive Woodard of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Margaret (Leon) Ogg of Normal, Illinois, Marguerite (Roger) Young of Springfield, Ohio, and Bertha Woodard of Springfield ; brother-in-law, Ernest (Gladys) Woodard of Ft. Myers, Florida; and nieces and nephews, Jeff (Linda) Harr of West Liberty, Rick (Judy) Harr of Spring, Texas, Mark (Yasuko) Harr of Bellefontaine, Chris (Dawn) Harr of West Liberty, Eugenia Woodard of Indiana, Tamara (Fred) Johnson of Michigan, Gregory Woodard of West Liberty, Douglas Woodard of North Carolina, Robin Woodard of Florida, Stephen (Cheryl) Ogg of Illinois, Michael (Kaci) Ogg of Nebraska, Sandy Downey of Bellefontaine and Sherri Cullison of Huntsville, Ohio; and many great nieces and nephews.
She worked as a nurse for Frigidaire in Dayton, Ohio, and for Dr. Douglas Beach until retirement. She and her husband operated Cy-Kay Feedlot for over 40 years.
Mary Kathryn graduated in 1931 from Bellefontaine High School and the Miami Valley School of Nursing. She was a member of the West Liberty United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the West Liberty Monday Afternoon Club, the Logan County Agrarians, the Ohio Cattleman Association; life member and President in 1970 of the Ohio Cattlewomen’s Association. She was also a member of the American National Cattlewomen’s Association and was the President in 1973. While President of this association, she visited all fifty states in the United States. She was very instrumental in starting the Beef Cook Off and was a member of the Logan County Farm Bureau.
Mary Kathryn was one of the individuals involved in starting fundraisers to build the current Green Hills Center which included the Labor Day Ox Roast and was an active member of the Green Hills Auxiliary.
Calling hours are Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. and 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the West Liberty United Church of Christ, with Pastor Will Stackhouse officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service in the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty.
