Max D. Harr, 82, of West Liberty, passed away at 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Green Hills Care Center. He was born in Zanesfield, Ohio on February 9, 1933 to the late Max Carlisle and Edna Oakey (Van Voorhis) Harr.

On March 3, 1957 he married the former Kuma Kathleen McDonald and she preceded him in death on September 20, 1995.He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rick Wirick.

Max is survived by his two daughters, Debbie (Phillip) Green and Dianna (Dale) Ward, both of West Liberty; six grandchildren, Wendy (Pete) Yang of Blacklick, Dustin Salyers of Littleton, Colorado, Nick Wirick of Bellefontaine, Zak Wirick, Ciarra Wirick and Grant Ward, all of West Liberty; three great grandsons, Kamden, Bradyn and Jamison; and two step-sons, Charles Lamb of Bellefontaine and Larry Lamb of West Liberty.

A life-long resident of West Liberty, Max had worked as a civilian cook at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for 32 years. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wren DD-568 during the Korean War, and was in the U.S. Navy Reserves for 16 years. He was a Logan County Commander, Past Commander and life-member of the Harold Kerr American Legion Post #173, AMVETS Post #105 in Bellefontaine, life-member of AMVETS Post #121 in Urbana, six-time Past Commander and Past District #2 Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars, life-member of VFW Post #1080, a member of VFW Springs-Wing Post #5451, Urbana, Moose Lodge #1215 in Urbana, served many years on the Logan County Veterans Service Commission, Logan County Veterans Honor Guard and the Logan County Draft Board. He was very active in the community as well. A Past Master of Mad River Lodge #161, Max had also hauled milk for Equity Dairy, served as West Liberty Marshall for seven years and announced the flag presentation and raising ceremony at West Liberty-Salem football games and belonged to the Logan County Senior Center.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 1 – 7 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. Pastor Ron Irick will officiate a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4th at the Church of God, 315 Liberty Street, West Liberty with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty with military rites provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty.
