Melanie M. Sims, 63, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010, at her home under Hospice care. She was born March 5, 1947, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to the late Alfred Donald and Ida Lenore (Forsberg) Moss.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel T. Sims, whom she married December 7, 1969 in Sturgis, Michigan. She is also survived by a daughter, Kerrie L. (Stephen) Hancock of Charlotte, North Carolina, son, Kasey C. (Angel) Sims of Bellefontaine, daughter, Kristen M.T. (Matt) Frick of Englewood, Ohio, and daughter, Kathleen M. (David) Smith of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Makayla, Caleb, Courtney, Lauren, Stephen, Xavier, and Alexander; two brothers, John (Marcia) Moss of Florida, Robert Mass of Michigan, and a sister, Barbara (Scott) Smith of Maryland, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Melanie graduated from Sturgis High School in Michigan, attended Michigan State University and graduated from Urbana University in 1984. She was employed by the State of Ohio Department of Job & Family Services as a supervisor in the child support division. She also had a part-time accounting service.
She was a faithful member of the Jubilee Mennonite Church and served as financial chairperson, pianist for worship services, and small group leader. Living out her faith, Melanie was a testament of all she encountered.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Pastor Tony Doehrmann will conduct the funeral service at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the Jubilee Mennonite Church in Bellefontaine with one hour of visitation prior to the service. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
