Mellonie Geniene Russell

Mellonie Geniene Russell, 71, of Bellefontaine, left us to begin her journey through the veil of creation on Saturday, April 8, 2023. She was born on November 10, 1951, in New Castle, Indiana to the late Charles and Joanne (Coddington) Chance. On June 6, 1983, she married David Russell, and he survives. They had been married for over 38 years.

She is also survived by three children: Tyra-Lee Large of Chula Vista, California, Michelle Costello of Chula Vista, and Sean Welsh of Washington state; and five grandchildren who she cherished: Matthew and Dillon of Chula Vista, Moira Welsh of Washington state, and Pacey James and Memphis David Large of Chula Vista.

While born in New Castle, Indiana, her parents moved to San Bernardino, California due to the March Air Reserve Base. The family eventually settled in Chula Vista, California. In her high school days, she was a proud member of a 250 strong marching band as a Trojanette. She marred into the Piqua Sept, 5th of the Shawnee nation. She enjoyed beading and sewing, traditionally, Algonquin Regalia. Once she moved to Bellefontaine, she joined the Bellefontaine Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association and graduated with no pomp and circumstance due to the Chinese virus. She said she must give back to a community that accepted her and her husband from 2300 miles away. Mellonie is a descendant of the Daniel Boone family, as Daniel’s brother was Mellonie’s grandfather many times removed.

Per Mellonie’s request, there will be no public services.

In lieu of flowers, Mellonie wants people to donate in her name to the Logan County Cancer Society, C/O Mary Rutan Foundations, 205 Palmer Avenue, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311. They were very instrumental in her illness, and their professional manner turned into a friendship.

EICHHOLTZ DARING & SANFORD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, BELLEFONTAINE is honored to serve the Russell family and encourages anyone to share a fond memory or message of condolence at www.edsfh.com.
