Mikela Sue (Brown) Schmidt went to be with her Lord April 15, 2010 in her home in West Liberty, Ohio at the age of 61. She was born to the late Florence Ellen (Taylor) and William Strayer Brown July 13, 1948 in Bellefontaine, Ohio, and was raised by her beloved late step-mother, Esther Brown. She was a loving mother, wife, sister and friend to all who knew her. God took her suddenly from us but she loved God and trusted him completely. She will be greatly missed by all who survive: Loren F. Schmidt, her husband of forty years; son, Loren “Fritz” Schmidt of Seoul, Korea; daughter, Emily Schmidt and Sean Dyck of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Sheryl Lee (Dick) Virts of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, Carol Ann (Rick) Baker of Farmer City, Illinois, Susan Jane (Gary) Spires and Jennifer McCumber both of West Liberty; a brother William S. (Kay) Brown of Springfield, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Jill (Keith) Kessler, David (Tracey) Virts, Matt Baker, Nathan (Mary Beth) Baker, Sarah (Brian) Jones, Chris and Tom Brown, Tyler and Noah Spires, Kyle and Kasey Knotts; great nieces and nephews, Tate and Olivia Virts, Ellen, Charlie and Vivian Baker, David and Esther Spires, and Hunter Knotts, and many, many friends, but especially Kathy Traucht.
She was a caregiver to her mother-in-law at the time of her passing and had previously worked at Oakhill Medical Center. She was a very creative individual and formerly operated Brown/Baker Antiques.
Mikela was a 1966 graduate of West Liberty-Salem High School and the Toledo School of Art and Design. She lived for many years in Noblesville, Indiana and then Bellbrook, Ohio, before coming back to West Liberty to operate the Allen House Bed and Breakfast. She was a member of the West Liberty Historical Society, West Liberty Tourist Club, West Liberty Book Club and Bible Study. She loved gathering local histories and was an avid genealogist, reader and gardener. She was a very special humble Christian human being.
