Miriam D. Hanaway, 97, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Campbell House in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born October 21, 1912, in Lima, Ohio, to James E. and Bertha Taylor Morton. She married Francis L. Hanaway September 22, 1939, and he preceded her in death July 6, 1995.
Surviving is a son, Kurt Hanaway of Bluffton, South Carolina; a daughter, Stephanie (Gregory) Hemmer of Lima, Ohio; four grandchildren, Adam & Zachary Hemmer and Brooke & Christopher Hanaway; and two great grandchildren.
She graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1960, and taught school for seventeen years, including fifteen years at Northeastern Elementary School in Bellefontaine. She was active in many organizations in Bellefontaine and was a frequent volunteer for many civic and charitable groups. She was a longtime dedicated member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Bellefontaine.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, with Rev. Rob Fulton officiating. Visitation will be Monday, April 5, 2010, from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Bellefontaine Cemetery.
