Morris W. Shields, age 96, formerly of Jackson Center, Ohio, passed away Thursday morning, June 26, 2014 at Sidney Care Center in Sidney, Ohio. He was born in rural Bellefontaine, Ohio January 17, 1918 to the late John and Norma (Morris) Shields.
He married the former Phyllis A. Leister February 28, 1943, and she preceded him in death January 19, 2007. Morris was also preceded in death by two daughters, Marilyn and Susann; a sister, Wanda Swartz and a brother, Wilber Shields.
Morris is survived by daughters Norma Jones of Jackson Center and Linda Myers of Russells Point, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Nancy Lindsey, Mark Dudgeon, Beth Williams, Kathy Gamble, Vincent Ambos, Jennifer Caldwell and Cindy Craft; twelve great-grandchildren, Jerry Dudgeon, Hannah Gamble, Abigail Gamble, Molly Gamble, Drayson Gamble, Acel Gamble, Brandy Sealscott, Brooke Sealscott, Mason Williams, Grant Helman, Hope Craft and Blaine O’Leary; two step-great-grandchildren, Chris Vincent and Megan Vincent; eight great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A United States Army Veteran of World War II, Morris was a lifelong farmer and had previously served as a McArthur Township trustee. He was also a former member of the Hunstville School Board. Morris enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and woodworking.
Interment will be at a later date at the Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Ohio.
