Nelson E. Breidenbach, 86, of Belle Center, Ohio, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Cherith Care Center at Willow Brook in Delaware, Ohio.
He was born June 15, 1926, in Forest, Ohio to the late Walter and Gertrude (Long) Breidenbach.
On April 20, 1947, he married the former Patricia Helen Wooley in Kenton, Ohio, and she preceded him in death September 27, 2007. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Mary Ellen and three brothers, Wesley, Marion and Kenny Breidenbach.
Surviving is a daughter, Mary H. (Ray) Barrett of Powell, Ohio; a granddaughter, Katherine (Michael) Barrett Brewer of Worthington, Ohio; his sister, Thelma (Bill) Freed of Arlington, Ohio; two brothers, Lawrence (Donna) Breidenbach and Harold (Eileen) Breidenbach, both of Findlay, Ohio; his cousin, Jim (Judy) Lynch of Linden, Michigan, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and “Woody”.
A mechanic, Nelson loved horses and was a trainer for twenty years. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving in World War II, was on the USS San Francisco and witnessed the flag rising at Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Professional Archery Association and the U.S. Trotting Association. He was a pilot, bow hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed all nature. He loved to travel and enjoyed The Ohio State University Basketball.
Calling hours are Sunday, June 9, 2013 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Belle Center. A graveside service will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Dunkirk Cemetery near Dunkirk, Ohio, with military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
The family has requested that everyone dress casual, no ties for the visitation and graveside service.
