Norman Otis Burmaster, age 66, of Bellefontaine, Ohio passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina after complications from Influenza B.

Norm was born in Jamestown, New York April 12, 1951, to the late Stanley Burmaster and Agnes (Brustrom) Burmaster.

He graduated from Circleville High School in 1970 and went on to complete his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University graduating in 1974. Norm, a Senior Designs Draftsman, worked thirty nine years at Mettler-Toledo before retiring in 2016. He was a kind and gentle soul.

Norm loved flying and was a pilot for almost fifty years. In his spare time, he enjoyed building RC airplanes, watching the Buckeyes, golfing, reading, taking long walks with his dog, dining with his friends, and vacationing at Disney World. However, the Champaign Aviation Museum was his true passion. He had spent the past eleven years with his volunteer friends, working to restore a B-17 Flying Fortress back to flying status.

Norm is survived by his wife, Cathy (Knack),whom he married on April 5, 1986, at the Worthington United Methodist Church. He is also survived by his daughter, Ashley (Charles) Phillips of North Carolina; a brother, Matt Burmaster of Dublin, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Beverly (Richard) Price of Bellefontaine and Valerie (Ben) Summersett III of Colorado; nephews and nieces, Marty Burmaster, Emily (Scott) Roberts, Delon Summersett, Brittany (John) Wertz, and Nicholas (Bekah) Price. Norm loved the Lord and was a member of the Huntsville United Methodist Church. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him.

A Celebration of Norm’s life will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Huntsville United Methodist Church in Huntsville, with Rev. Bryan Meadows officiating.

The staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the local arrangements.
