O. Pearl Crofut, 92, formerly of Huntsville, Ohio, passed away Saturday morning, March 9, 2013 at Green Hills Community in West Liberty, Ohio. She was born in Guernsey County, Ohio October 3, 1920, to the late Alba Raymond and Lyda Olive (Smith) Inglish.
Pearl married Darwin H. Crofut October 23, 1940, in Antrim, Ohio and he preceded her in death September 13, 2010. She was also preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Charles Thornton.
Pearl was a 1938 graduate of Madison High School in Guernsey County. In 1951, she moved from Londonderry, Ohio to Huntsville and with her husband, purchased the Huntsville Grain Co. and renamed it Crofut Grain & Feed. After operating the elevator sixteen and a half years, they opened Crofut Barber & Beauty Supply. Pearl was the bookkeeper for both businesses.
She was a member of the Belle Center Eastern Star and later transferred to Bellefontaine Chapter #459. Pearl was past Vice-President of the Logan County Republican Party and a member of the Huntsville Presbyterian Church.
With her husband Darwin, Pearl enjoyed sixteen autumns and winters at their cabin in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where they were members of the Michigan Snowmobile Association and the Western Snowmobile Association. Pearl was proud of the fact that while riding a snowmobile, she crossed the Continental Divide.
Pearl is survived by her children Carol Crofut of Grove City, Ohio and Gary (Susie) Crofut of Bellefontaine, Ohio; grandchildren Kimberly (Mike) Ryan of Redondo Beach, California and Kevin (Lacie) Crofut of Richwood, Ohio; great-grandchildren Zachary and Bethany Crofut; and a niece, Susie (William) Higgenbotham of Hilliard, Ohio.
The funeral service will be held at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Ben Beres and Rev. Russell D. Williams officiating. Interment will be in the Londonderry Cemetery near Cambridge, Ohio. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 4 to 6 P.M.
