Oris J. Hemphill, 85, of West Liberty, Ohio, and formerly of Huntsville, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010 at his residence. He was born May 13, 1924, the son of the late John Franklin and Helen Angeline (Johnston) Hemphill. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jean Roberts April 17, 1978.
On May 27 1944, he married Marion (Turner) and she survives in West Liberty. They are the parents of Dorothy (Barry) Allen of Lafayette, Ohio, Susan (Mike) Clum of Elida, Ohio, Richard (Carol) Hemphill of West Liberty, and son-in-law, Mike (Deb) Roberts, also of West Liberty. Two brothers survive: Paul F. (Betty) Hemphill of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and John C. Hemphill of Russells Point, Ohio. Thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren complete their family.
Mr. Hemphill was a member of the Huntsville Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and as a Trustee. He was a 1943 graduate of Belle Center High School and was a life-long farmer and a teller of epic tales.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine with Pastors Karen Cassedy, Cheryl Siegenthaler, and Daniel McCarty officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service in the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
