Orville Kenneth “Red” Rogers, 94, of Bellefontaine passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 in Logan Acres Care Center.
He was born May 17, 1921 in McGuffey, OH, the son of the late Logan and Pearl (Blankenship) Rogers. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
On August 29, 1951 in Richmond, IN he married the former Geraldine Routt and she survives him along with their daughter, Victoria (Rick) Mortimore of Cincinnati and son, Kenny Rogers of Bellefontaine: four granddaughters, Mandy (Joey) Broome of Huntsville, AL, Inez (Scott) Seaman of Milford, OH, Jennifer (Tom) Hamilton of Batavia, OH and Melissa Rogers of Marysville; seven great grandchildren, Emily, Matthew, Molly, Katherine, Abby, Lexy and Ally; one sister, Jeanette Mosier of Bellefontaine; and many nieces and nephews.
Red was a 1941 graduate of Rushsylvania High School and then served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. After returning from his service, he began his career working on the railroad and worked for New York Central and Conrail when he retired in 1982. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroaders Signalman Union as well was the VFW and Eagles lodges. He enjoyed working in his garden, mushroom hunting but most of all he loved to fish. Later on, he enjoyed NASCAR and had attended several races.
Pastor A.W. Purdin will officiate a funeral service on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 321 N. Main St. Bellefontaine. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 2 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty with military services provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
