Philip Edwin Contner, 86, of Bellefontaine passed away Tuesday morning, June 16, 2015 at Mary Rutan Hospital.

Phil was born on October 20, 1928 to the late Kirby Kaylor Contner and Lela Elizabeth King Contner. He married Mary Holbrook of Circleville, Ohio on August 19, 1951 and she survives along with their only son, Dr. Gary Edwin (Karen) Contner of Bellefontaine, and two grandsons Matthew Jacob Contner and Alexander Jordan Contner.

Phil was a 1946 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a financial advisor and following his retirement, Phil and Mary spent many winters in Florida where he lived his dream of being able to play golf almost daily. Phil was a member of First Lutheran Church and a past member and president of the Bellefontaine Exchange Club. He was also president of the former Latham’s Convalescent Home, Pullets Inc. and Wayne Trails Hatcheries, a lifetime member of the Elks and a member of the Satans Angels Drum and Bugle Corps. Phil enjoyed golf, fishing and his wood working hobby of Intarsia.

Friends may call at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Bellefontaine on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 5-7pm. Pastors William E. Saunders and Cheryl Siegenthaler will officiate the funeral service on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 1pm at the First Lutheran Church, Bellefontaine. Burial will follow in Zanesfield Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Honor Guard.
