Phyllis L. McGowan, 72, of rural DeGraff, Ohio, passed away Wednesday morning, December 18, 2013 at her home.
She was born in Shelby County Ohio to the late Dallas Kemp and Betty (Regula) Kemp whom survives in Jackson Center. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Sue Snider.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Max McGowan, whom she married September 17, 1960 in Jackson Center, Ohio. Also surviving is their daughter, Kelli (Jim) Bowen of DeGraff and a granddaughter, Christina Bowen.
Phyllis graduated from Jackson Center School in 1959 and also from Franklin Business in Columbus, Ohio. She was employed at the Ohio State Campus Extension Service in Columbus and also at LeRoy in Sidney, Ohio as an office employee.
A lifetime member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center, she also was a past member of the Jackson Center Jr. American Club.
Phyllis was a devoted farm wife, mother and grandmother who excelled in baking and cooking. All of her extended family was fond of her potato salad. She also enjoyed flowers, cats, dogs, and eating out with family and friends.
Calling hours will be held Friday, December 20, 2013, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Jackson Center from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Pastor Kent Hollis will officiate an 11:00 A.M. funeral service at the Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center Saturday, December 21, 2013 with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Interment will be at the Rea Cemetery in Bloom Center.
