Phyllis N. Yoder, 90, of West Liberty, Ohio, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at the Green Hills Retirement Center in West Liberty. She was born in Logan County on January 20, 1918, a daughter of the late Floyd R. and Kathryn B. Plank Yoder.
Survivors include a sister, Celia (Gayler) Hooley of West Liberty; 19 nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Everett Yoder of West Liberty; and a sister-in-law, Helen Yoder of West Liberty. She was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley P. Yoder; and two sisters, Ina Yoder and Mary Joan Scoby.
After graduating from West Liberty High School, she attended Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana. A school teacher, she taught in Champaign County, Illinois, from 1941 to 1948. She then taught fourth grade at West Liberty-Salem Schools from 1948 to 1974. She retired in 1974 after 33 years in the classroom.
She was a member of South Union Mennonite Church in West Liberty, where she was a treasurer for 10 years.
Pastor Howard Schmitt conducts a memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2008, at the South Union Mennonite Church.
A private graveside service will be conducted at South Union Cemetery, West Liberty, prior to the memorial service.
