Phyllis E. Piatt Young

Phyllis E. Piatt Young, 96, of West Liberty, passed away Monday morning, October 3, 2022, at Green Hills Care Center.

Phyllis was born in West Liberty, on February 11, 1926, to the late Earnest and Helen Marie (Harner) Hines.  She married John E. Piatt in 1946, and he preceded her in death in 1983.   She later married Roland “Red” Young and he preceded her in death in 2003.  Phyllis was also preceded in death by an infant daughter Denise Monica Piatt, an infant brother Earnest Lynn Piatt, and sisters Reba Piper and Dottie Milledge.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Debbie Piatt and Dave Piatt, both of West Liberty; 4 grandchildren: J.D. (Robin) Piatt, Haley (Andy) Neiderhauser, Angie Piatt Dixon, and John D. (Summer) Piatt; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was a member of the West Liberty Presbyterian Church where she was active with the Ladies Auxiliary and was well known for baking pies for church functions.   Phyllis was also a member of the Myeerah Homemakers Club for many years, and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  She loved her strawberries, hunting mushrooms, and baking pies that would be given to other people.  Above all, Phyllis loved her grandkids.

Pastor Keith Landis will officiate Phyllis’s funeral service on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 12noon at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, West Liberty, where friends will be received from 11am – noon, prior to the service.  Private family burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
