Reed Smith, 84, passed away June 25, 2010 at Heartland of Bellefontaine, Ohio, where he was a resident. He was the son of Reed Smith, Sr. and Margaret Dick of Columbia, South Carolina.
Reed was a World War II veteran serving as Lt. JG in the United States Navy. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of South Carolina and also earned a Masters of Business Administration from Northwestern University. After the war, he married Dorothy Jarvis from Norfolk, Virgina, who preceded him in death. He taught graduate school at a Christian university and continued into the business world working for 3M in Cincinnati, Ohio. He then moved to Washington, DC and worked for thirty seven years for the Charles G. Stott & Co., which he was part-owner. During this time he was also active in The Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC serving as a trustee and elder. As a lifelong Presbyterian, Reed continued to be active in the church when he and his wife retired to Chesapeake, Virginia. Upon moving to Bellefontaine, Reed became a member of First United Presbyterian Church.
Reed is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Yeager and husband Chuck, grandson, Tyson Yeager, granddaughter, Victoria Yeager of Bellefontaine, and a sister, Margaret Schaper of Pasadena, California.
A memorial service will be held in Chesapeake, Virginia at the Holloman-Brown Funeral Home.
