Reverend Doctor Sarah Marie Young

Sarah Marie Young, 62, passed away February 26, 2019, in Denver, Colorado, from an aggressive cancer.

Sarah was born August 8, 1956, in Painesville, Ohio, the daughter of Rev. Leonard (L.D.) and Lucille Marie (Price) Young.  She grew up in Bellefontaine, Ohio, where she was happily surrounded by relatives in both sides of her family, lifelong friends and church family at the Bellefontaine Church of the Brethren where her father was the pastor.  She was a 1974 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and graduated from the University of LaVerne, Bethany School of Theology, and the Akron School of Massage Therapy.  She graduated from ILIFF School of Theology with her Doctorate of Divinity degree in 2007.

She was formerly employed at Logan Acres Care Center, Akron First Church of the Brethren in Akron, Ohio, Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren in Littleton Colorado, HHS Healthcare and High-Risk Security Services at the Denver International Airport and Argus Event Staffing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her half-siblings Vaughn Young, Joy Young Baker and June Young Beeks, and a great nephew, Alexander Baker.  She is survived by many cousins, her nieces Karen Baker Lewandowski of Ladson SC, Rebecca Young Turner of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Elizabeth Young Figley, of Ft. Mohave AZ, and Martha Young Mount of Asheville, NC and her nephews Curtis N. Young of Columbus Ohio, Robert Perry Baker of Albuquerque NM; great nieces and nephews Michael Lewandowski, Christina Baker Mueller, Emily Allen Thornburg, Laura Allen Dillard, Michael Mount, Katherine Mount, Eric Mount, Andrew Baker, Katie Baker and Holly Baker Grant.  She was the proud great great “auntie” of Myla and Owen Thornburg and Bryden Jo Dillard.  She was blessed with many life-long friends.

Sarah loved traveling, music, her faith tradition, and genealogy.  She was a life-long learner, a talented artist, and a gifted writer of Brethren articles, devotionals and Sunday school curricula.  Sarah was a true peacemaker -- she was instrumental in spearheading efforts to bring about healing in the Littleton, Colorado, community after the tragedy at Columbine.

A Celebration of Sarah’s life will be held Saturday March 30, 2019, at 11:00 AM at her home church, the Bellefontaine Church of the Brethren, Bellefontaine Ohio, officiated by Rev. Andrew Wright, with a fellowship meal to follow.

The family was assisted locally by the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
