Rev. Richard J. Johnson, 91, of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013, at his daughters’ residence in Knoxville, Tennessee.
He was born May 13, 1922, in Alliance, Ohio to the late Willis B. and Alice (Kinsey) Johnson. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Horace and Robert Johnson.
On August 16, 1952, he married the former Lois Seward in Crawford Corners, Ohio and she survives. Also surviving is a son, Paul (Linda) Johnson of Canton, Ohio; two daughters, Rebecca (Charles) Robinson of Knoxville, Tennessee and Deborah (Jon) Goll of Akron, Ohio; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Rev. Johnson received his degrees from Malone University, Taylor University and Asbury Seminary, where he received his Master’s in Divinity. He first served at Mt. Carmel Friends Church in Cable, Ohio and then served churches in Kentucky, Ohio, Minnesota and Indiana. He retired from the McKee’s Creek Friends Church in West Liberty.
He enjoyed reading the Bible. A HAM radio operator, he also enjoyed model trains, all Ohio State sports and going to antique shows with his wife.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 28, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. at the Mt. Carmel Friends Church in Cable, Ohio Wednesday, May 29, 2013, with Pastor’s Paul Johnson and Michael Will officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Short Creek Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio at 3:30 P.M. following the funeral service.
