Richard Hugh Abraham, age 79, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away at 11:30 P.M. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
He was born in Bellefontaine August 6, 1934, to the late Robert M. and Ruth A. (Wynn) Abraham. On May 5, 1960, he married the former Kay Knowlton and she preceded him in death September 30, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his sister Eleanor Hess.
He is survived by his sons, Scott (Julie) Abraham and Daryl (April) Abraham, both of Bellefontaine; and five grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Abraham and Ericka, Elicia and Landon Woodrum.
Richard was very active in his community throughout his life. He was a 1952 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and was inducted into the Bellefontaine High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. He was a member of the Bellefontaine United Methodist Church. From 1957 to 1959 Richard served with the U.S. Army Finance Corp. while stationed in Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
Richard was a leader in his profession, having held positions as Treasurer for The J.M. Abraham Company, V.P./Treasurer for Citizens Federal Savings and Loan, EVP/MO for Bellefontaine Federal Savings & Loan, and EVP/CEO for Colonial Federal Savings & Loan. He was also a broker and the owner of Century 21 The RHA Group Realty Inc. for over twenty years.
Richard was also very involved in his community. He served as a Board Chairman for the Mary Rutan Hospital Association, President of the Mary Rutan Hospital Foundation, was a board member for the Mary Rutan Health Association and Board of Trustees. He also served as a member of First United Methodist Church Board of Trustees, was a Past Director and President of the Logan County Area Chamber of Commerce, Director and President of the Community Improvement Corp., and was a Past Member of the Ohio Savings & Loan League Board of Trustees.
Gene Marine will officiate the funeral service at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Bellefontaine Cemetery in Bellefontaine with military rites performed by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
The funeral arrangements were in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.
