Richard H. Crandall, age 82, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born March 8, 1932 in Delaware County Ohio, to the late Odus and Mary (Phillips) Crandall.
On December 31, 1955, he married the former Iris Mae Tennant at the Forest Lawn Presbyterian Church in Marion, Ohio, and she survives along with their children, Pastor Julie (Craig) Fogle of rural Hardin County Ohio and Atty. Jeffre (Donna) Crandall of Westport, Washington; grandchildren, Neal, Rachel, Rebecca, and Mikayla; a great granddaughter, Lilliana, and his twin sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Crandall of Delaware, Ohio.
Richard graduated from Radnor High School and attended the Ohio Wesleyan University. He was a longtime realtor and auctioneer in Logan County and throughout Ohio. He raised black angus cattle and standardbred horses.
He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Bellefontaine, a past member and officer of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, the Logan County Board of Realtors and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #132, where he enjoyed having lunch with other businessmen in the community. He was Civil War historian, and collector of fine Civil War arms, Indian relics, and farm machinery. He loved God, his family, his country and hard work.
Gene Marine will officiate the 1:00 P.M. funeral service Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Interment will be at the Bellefontaine Cemetery in Bellefontaine.
