Richard Hurst

Richard Harold Hurst, 89, of Bellefontaine passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Heartland of Bellefontaine. He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on August 1, 1925 to the late Darryl and Treva (Settlemeir) Hurst.

On September 3, 1955 he married the former Wanda L. Rollins and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2003. He is also preceded in death by his brother Fred Hurst and nephew Don Hurst.

He is survived by his son, Scott (Patti Miller) Hurst of Bellefontaine, a brother, Jim (Joyce) Hurst of Ohio, niece and nephews; Keith Hurst, Randy (Sue) Hurst, Sharry (Frank) Cummings, and Darryl Hurst, several great nieces and nephews, and his companion, Peg Poulin of Bellefontaine.

Dick was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II serving on destroyer, USS Weber in both the European and Pacific Theatres. When he returned home, he worked for Hurst Florist in Bellefontaine before going to sell cars for H.G. Short. He later worked for MacGillivray Motors and then for Anderson Ford, all in Bellefontaine.

He enjoyed working in his yard and watching the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Dick always had a smile on his face and was truly a people person who enjoyed being around others. He was a member of the American Legion, where he had served as Past Commander. He was also a two-time Grand Marshal of the Bellefontaine Memorial Day Parade

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the American Legion Harold Kerr Post 173, 120 Colton Ave, Bellefontaine with military rites provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard. Visitation hours will be on Saturday at the American Legion from noon to 5:00 p.m. that is open to the public. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery in the spring of 2015.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.
