Richard Paul “Dick” Maier, 79, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 5:05 a.m. on Friday, April 8, 2016 at his home. He was born in Bellefontaine on April 28, 1936 to the late John E. and Eula M. (Wish) Maier. Along with his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Levy; and a granddaughter, Brooke Corbin.
On March 12, 1959, Dick married Rita Faye (Madden) Maier and she survives along with a son, Richard “Les” (Vickie) Maier of Huntsville; daughters, Donna M. Corbin of Arlington, Ohio, and Paula J. (Steve) Heitter of Byron, Illinois; grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Maier, Jennifer (Chuck Taylor) Maier, Josh (Charlotte Gase) Levy, Curt Levy, Lindsey Levy, Erika Corbin, Wes Corbin, Kaila Heitter, and Jacob Heitter; great grandchildren, Abigail and Joseph Maier, and Victoria Taylor; twin brother, Robert E. (Carol) Maier, and brothers, John F. (Ann) Maier, and David F. Maier, all of Huntsville. Also surviving is a faithful and loving cocker spaniel, Bailey.
Dick served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1960. He worked for Thomas & Marker Construction for 34 years and retired as job superintendent. During his time as job superintendent, he was most proud of these three projects, Wright Patterson Air Force Museum, Ohio Northern Freed Center, and Bellefontaine Wastewater Plant. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting mushrooms and Indian artifacts. Dick and Rita spent several months of the year in Ft Myers Beach, Florida.
Pastor Jason Robson will officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. Visitation will be Sunday, April 10th, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery.
