Richard Mac Wilgus, 88, of DeGraff passed away at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Mary Rutan Hospital. He was born in Logan County, Ohio on May 17, 1926 to the late Cecil and Ruby Wilgus.
On October 15, 1949 he married Elva Mae Moore and she preceded him in death on January 26, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his son Richard Scott Wilgus, a great grandson Tate Lane, four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by four daughters; Dixie (Tom) Mann of Jackson Center, Vickie (Chuck) Strayer, Lisa (Randy) Ransbottom and Lori Fraley, all of DeGraff; a daughter-in-law, Jo Wilgus of Bellefontaine; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Sherry (Bill) Fast of Sidney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
While in the U.S. Army, Richard served in the South Pacific during WWII. He retired from DAB after 35 years of service as a General Foreman. Following retirement, he worked for 18 years at Liberty Hills Golf Course. He served as an Elder at the First Christian Church in Bellefontaine and was a member of Boggs Lodge #292 F&AM, American Legion Miami Valley Post #652 and V.F.W. Frank D. Castle Post #1080. Up until a few weeks ago, he would regularly workout at the YMCA. He truly enjoyed the time he spent with his “Y Family” and the “gang” at the DeGraff Creamery.
Gene Marine will officiate a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes Street, DeGraff, Ohio. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 24th from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.
