Robert E. “Bobby Gene” Hughes, 62, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1:20 A.M. in Sidney Care Center.
He was born March 12, 1950 in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Robert and Avril (Pope) Hughes. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon (Roush) Hughes; an infant daughter, Judy Kay; a sister, Linda Kay and two nephews, Lenny Hughes and Johnny Gammell.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Thompson Hughes of Sidney, whom he married September 5, 1984 in Russells Point, Ohio; a daughter, Jennifer (Jack) Rufus of Bellefontaine, Ohio; a son, Mike (Mollie) Hughes of DeGraff, Ohio; a sister, Virginia Katherine (Robert) Gammell of Bellefontaine; a brother, Leonard (Vickie) Hughes of Wapakoneta, Ohio; three grandchildren; three step children, Maryann, Wesley Eugene, and Amy Thompson, all of Sidney; six step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
Bobby Gene loved country music and playing his guitar. His many hobbies included being an amateur C.B. operator using the handle “Wheeler Dealer” which he enjoyed with his good friend John “Hitman” Ball. He attended the Sidney Apostolic Church with his wife and followed Ohio State Buckeye football. He enjoyed his cats, Garfield, Rosey, and Jingles and his dog, Willey.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Springhill Cemetery with Pastor Leroy Hughes and Pastor Mark Hina officiating. Calling hours are Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.
