Robert J. King

Robert Joseph King, 86, of Maplewood, passed away Monday morning, January 8, 2024, at his home.

Bob was born on the family farm near Anna, Ohio, on October 23, 1937, to the late Eugene Joseph and Martha Veronica (Berg) King. 

Bob married Patricia Ann Gutmann on May 30, 1960, and she survives in Maplewood.  They have four children:  Renee’ Elizabeth (Alan) Winner of DeGraff, Scott Thomas (Ann) King of Anna, Dana Joseph King (deceased), and DeAnna Marie (Nicholas) Baughman of Sidney; 17 grandchildren, one of whom is deceased; 38 great-grandchildren; siblings:  Jane Van Horn (deceased), James (Carolyn) King of Botkins, Kathryn (John) Sitzman of Wapakoneta, and Mary Ellen (Roger) Geyer (both deceased); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A 1955 graduate of Botkins Local School, Bob was a devoted Catholic who structured his life around his family.  He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church (Rhine).  He had a wide variety of skill sets that served his family well.  Bob worked the majority of his life in construction and as a finish carpenter, building homes, remodeling, and light commercial work.  Bob was known for his meticulous craftsmanship on his projects.  He enjoyed raising club lambs after moving to the farm.  Bob was always willing to lend a hand, share his talents, and mentor his family with their projects and interests.

Visitation for Bob will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 4-7PM St. Lawrence Catholic Church Hall (Rhine), 16053 Botkins Road, Botkins, Ohio, and on Friday, January 12, from 9AM-10AM in the church hall.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 12, at 10:30AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church (Rhine).  Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Botkins.
