Robert C. “Bob” Kellogg, age 80, who resided at 209 Green Tree Lane in Bellefontaine, Ohio passed away at 7:45 P.M. Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Green Hills Community in West Liberty, Ohio surrounded by his family and wife of sixty years, Jackie (Hofmann) Kellogg.
Bob was born April 26, 1937, the son of the late Robert Kellogg and Jeannette Rea Johns.
Bob is also survived by his five children, Kim (Jeff) Kellogg-Martin, Kathy (Kevin) Berg, Robert O. (Richard) Kellogg, Chris (Judy) Kellogg and Kelly (Larry) Pool; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and two “on the way” and a cousin, Linda Rea Cerwinsky.
Bob joined the United States Marine Corp and was stationed in San Diego, California where he and Jackie were married. After his honorable discharge, they returned to Logan County and started their family. Bob worked many jobs over his working life – sometimes two and three jobs at a time.
Bob was a 1955 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and obtained his teaching degree from Urbana College where he graduated with honors. He earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Dayton.
Bob previously worked at Insley’s Pharmacy, the railroad, Vicario’s Shoe Store, Rockwell International and Firestone Tire and served as a Bailiff at the Bellefontaine Municipal Court. Bob also worked at the Logan County Educational Service Center and was a Bellefontaine City Parks Supervisor. He also worked at the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office where he implemented and directed The Diversion Program.
Bob was a member of the Bellefontaine Jaycees Club and was a member of the SunTree East Board in Arizona. Bob and Jackie spent their winters for over fifteen years in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Bob also served as the Athletic Director at Riverside School and coached boys baseball and girls basketball. He was Sports Editor for the Bellefontaine Examiner and an official for basketball and football games throughout the state. Bob was also a representative for both the Hi-Point Baseball Association and the Bellefontaine Softball Association where he served as a former President and a commissioner of the WCOC Sports Conference. Bob was long associated with scholastic, independent and recreation programs in Bellefontaine and the county. He played and coached American Legion Baseball and received the 1978-1979 West Central Ohio Conference Sportsmanship Award.
His passion was sports, softball and he also went to Cooperstown. He enjoyed playing tennis with his friends out west and in Bellefontaine and shared witty stories and jokes. Bob touched the lives of many people in this community. He had the gift of gab and enjoyed folks from all walks of life. Bob will be missed by his large family. He, alongside his wife, served as amazing role models as they both started college after having a large family and attained the dream of having careers – not just jobs that made a difference in the lives of others.
Deacon Robert Crook will officiate a Celebration of Life service at 5:00 P.M. Saturday, January 13, 2018 in Makley Hall next to the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bellefontaine. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in Makley Hall. An Irish Wake will follow the service with food, fun and Irish music.
The arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
