Robert R. Maples, 70, of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima, Ohio. He was born on February 1, 1939 in Washburn, Tennessee, to the late Wade and Roxie Hurst Maples.
He is survived by his devoted companion, Carol Arbuckle of Remington, Indiana; sons, Daren Maples of Ocala, Florida, and Russell & Scott Jansen and Wayne Young; daughters, Dawn (Robert) Clark of Remington, Indiana, and Robin Stanley of Franklin, Indiana, Lisa & Rhonda Jansen, Wendy Boyer and Cindy Jones; brothers, Lee (Darlene) Maples of Delaware, Ohio, Don (Joan) Maples of West Liberty, Fleetwood Maples of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Joe (Della) Maples of Tazewell, Tennessee, Carl (Deanna) Maples of Tazewell, and Mike (Betsy) Maples of Tazewell; sisters, Cinda Russell of Guston, Kentucky, and Virginia (W.T.) Williams of Tazewell; 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A brother, Dean Maples, preceded him in death.
A retired construction worker and a Air Force veteran, Robert was an avid thoroughbred racing fan, Cleveland Indians fan and NASCAR racing fan, especially Jeff Gordon. He enjoyed bluegrass music, especially Earl Scruggs. He was a member of the Laborers International Union of North American, Dayton 1410.
Calling hours are Sunday, March 15, 2009, from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty, where the funeral service will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 16, 2009. Burial will be in the Kirkersville Cemetery in Kirkersville, Ohio.
