Robert E. Shields, 72, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013 at The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by his family.

He was born January 12, 1941, in Bellefontaine, a son of the late Albert and Juanita (Parker) Shields.

On April 28, 1973, in Bellefontaine he married the former Mary Lu Buscher and she preceded him in death January 22, 2004. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Wilda Shields and a son-in-law, Steven L. Skidmore.

Survivors include his first wife, Carol D. Shields, the mother of Robert G. (Margaret) Shields of Bellefontaine, Gary A. (Susie) Shields of Bellefontaine, Lisa C. (David) Zuhlsdorf of Bowling Green, Ohio, Teresa D. (David) Grubbs of Dublin, Ohio and Dottie Skidmore of Bellefontaine; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Jean Detterer of Bellefontaine and a brother, Donald (Sue) Shields of Bellefontaine and close friend, Joanne Shaner of Huntsville, Ohio.

Robert was a graduate of Belle Center High School and attended the First Church of God in Bellefontaine. He was a supervisor with Glacier, formerly D.A.B of Bellefontaine, where he retired in 2003 with forty plus years of service and was also a farmer his entire life. He enjoyed John Wayne movies and westerns. He also enjoyed hunting and camping with family and watching the Green Bay Packers.

Pastor Ray Headings will officiate the funeral service Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 11 A.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine where calling hours are Friday, June 28, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M. and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in New Hampshire, Ohio.

The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
