Robert L. Stayrook, 88, of Bellefontaine passed away Monday, December 5, 2016 at his home.
He was born in Mexico, Indiana on March 17, 1928, the son of the late Earl Ervin and Viola E. (Pugh) Stayrook. He is also preceded in death a sister; Sarah Maxine Aler and sisters and brothers-in-law; Evelyn Stayrook, Pat Hennessy, Eugene Jackson, Fred Aler, Jim Guthrie, and Don Ritter, Lyla Mae Backensto, Iva Backensto, Frank Alexander, Dwight Alexander, Carl J. Alexander and Charles Alexander.
On June 25, 1950, he married Ruth A. (Alexander) Stayrook in Zanesfield, Ohio and she survives in Bellefontaine. He is also survived by a daughter, Connie S. (Timothy) McGlone of Lakeview, two sons; Douglas L. (Kathie) Stayrook of Powell, OH and Michael D. (Annie) Stayrook of Galloway, OH, eight grandchildren; Bryce (Michelle) Stayrook of Hilliard, Tiffanie (Robert) Scherer of Gahanna, OH, Chad D. (Katarina) Stayrook of Brooklyn, NY, Jolea (Brad) Highland of Dayton, Matthew L. (Kristin) McGlone of Orange, CA, Trevor S. (Lindsey) McGlone of West Liberty, OH, Braden R. McGlone of Hilliard, and Sara L. Stayrook, both of Dublin, one brother, Earl Stayrook, Jr. of Bellefontaine, seven sisters; Christine (Tom) Spain of Middleburg, Dorlean Guthrie of Bellefontaine, Betty Hennessy of Bellefontaine and Shirley Ritter of Pennsylvania, Elizabeth (Robert) Herring of Sidney, Sharyl Jackson and Phyllis (Kay) Hunt, both of Bellefontaine, eight great grandchildren; Larkin and Sammi Scherer, Lincoln and Charlotte Highland, Gwendolyn and Owen Stayrook, Avery McGlone and Beckett McGlone, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was a longtime member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Fayette County and then later the First United Methodist Church of Bellefontaine. He was very active in both churches serving on many committees. He also belonged to the Farm Bureau Council and the Kiwanis Club. He worked for 46 years for the Farm Bureau of Logan County where he was General Manager and then later Landmark and then Country Mark, retiring as the State Area Manager. He also served as Bailiff for the Common Pleas Court Judge Victor Pontious. Robert enjoyed golfing, playing ping pong, camping, square dancing, traveling where he spent many winters in Florida and most of all spending time with his family.
Pastors Bryan Meadows, Wayne Clark and H. Kearns will officiate a memorial service on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Main St. Bellefontaine. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church and burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery at a later date.
