Roberta Marie (Lee) Tevis, 61, of West Liberty, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 30, 2017.
She leaves behind her husband, Daniel Tevis and daughter, Marie Kerns. She also leaves behind three beloved grandchildren; Sebastian Rinbolt, Douglas Kerns, and Destanie Brenner, a sister, Sandy Koogler, three great-grandchildren; Conner, Haillee, and Baiden Brenner, many nieces and nephews, Shelli Muncy, Kathy Veddar, and Chris Geis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rolland H. and Ruth M. (Horrington) Lee, a sister, Ginny Lee Hixon, and her brothers-in-law, Herb Hixon and Don Koogler.
Roberta retired in 2015 after 31 years of teaching in Kenton City Schools. She was a beloved teacher to many students who were privileged to have her as a teacher. She was a devoted Christian and was a member of the St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Russells Point and she loved her faith by ministering to others with whom she shared God’s love. A big part of Roberta’s heart went to her devotion to her union associations including Ohio Education Association (OEA) and Northwest Ohio Education Association (NOEA). From the onset of her teaching career, she dove right into serving her fellow teachers by representing them on many boards and committees too numerous to name. She ultimately served on the OEA executive board and through many years of service, she received many awards for dedicated service. But, the hallmark of these years of time spent in these associations were the many lifelong friends that she gleaned. Many of her friends testify of how she touched their lives. She was an avid defender of women’s rights and strove to foster diversity in our world.
Robert’s life was marked with many health issues and tragedies, including the one that involved her husband having an automobile accident which required many months of therapy and support. During this time, she was praised as a beacon of light to others in the group suffering the same fate. That was Roberta, always giving a hand for others to hold onto, always giving of her time, always going the extra mile to help others.
Many will miss her gift bags that were lavished on her friends “just because”. Once you met Roberta, you were her friend for life! All those lifelong friends will never be able to look at a penguin (her favorite mascot) again, without thinking of their beloved friend.
Of course, we couldn’t let a memoriam to Roberta go by without mentioning her love of traveling. She had the pleasure of vising Hawaii, and even being married there in Kapalua Beach on the island of Maui and she visited Europe several times making sure she spent time in her family’s beloved country of Ireland. AND last but not least, she was not just a Buckeye fan, but a Buckeye fanatic!!!
