Roberto Lopez

Roberto “Bob” Lopez, 42, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010, after a courageous 12 year battle with renal failure resulting in chronic medical complications at Elizabeth Place, a hospice center located in Dayton, Ohio.

He was born July 11, 1967, in Phoenix, Arizona to Roy and Elena (Espinosa) Lopez who survive in Queen Creek, Arizona. On February 15, 2007 he married Kelly Kellogg in Gilbert, Arizona, and she survives. Also surviving is his 12 year old son Rian Lopez, sisters Dalia and Angie, a brother Sam, and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was an adventurous soul and followed his dream to see the world by joining the military. He made the ultimate sacrifice by serving in the Gulf War where he sustained injures resulting in major health problems. Anne Berg-Lightle donated her kidney to Bob in the summer of 2008.

Despite spending much of the last four years of his life in hospitals, he enjoyed life and brought smiles to the faces of his caregivers. Through his struggles, his unselfishness shined through and he still gave the gift of laughter to many.

Calling hours will be Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine from 4 to 7 P.M. Full Military Honors will take place in the near future at the Dayton National Cemetery, where Sergeant Lopez will be laid to rest along with his fellow comrades in arms.

Memorial contributions may be made to a fund established for his son, Rian Lopez % Citizens Federal Savings & Loan 110 N. Main St. Bellefontaine, OH 43311
