Roger “Bud” W. Christler, 86, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, passed away at 8:58 A.M. Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System in Lima, Ohio.
He was born in Shelby County Ohio February 21, 1927, to the late Henry C. and Margaret “Maggie” (Rickert) Christler. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Gross, Evelyn Waterman, Shirley Schnell and Carol Knoch.
On December 26, 1954, he married the former Rosemary Hawkins, and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Steve (Peggy) Christler of Miamisburg, Ohio and Brent (Janet) Christler of Wapakoneta; six grandchildren, Thomas (Charidy) Murphy of Springfield, Ohio, Eileen (Cody) Downing of West Carrollton, Ohio, Colin Christler of Dayton, Ohio, Joshua (Jamie) Christler of St. Marys, Ohio, Mandy Christler of Findlay, Ohio and Brandon Christler of Columbus, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Brant Smith, Payge Vey, Hayleigh Renee Downing and Madilyn Rose Downing; a sister, Doris Lunz of New Bremen, Ohio; a brother-in-law, James Knoch of Wapakoneta, and several nieces and nephews.
A United States Army Korean War Veteran, Roger was Past Commander of the American Legion Scherer Post #493 in Jackson Center, Ohio. He was a dairy farmer for several years before he began working as a machinist at the former Excello in Lima, Ohio where he remained employed for twenty five years. Roger enjoyed gardening and working outdoors.
Pastor Sylvia Hull will conduct the funeral service Sunday, November 10, 2013, at 1:00 P.M. at the Jackson Center United Methodist Church in Jackson Center. Calling hours will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013, from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Jackson Center. Interment will be at the Pearl Cemetery.
The funeral arrangements were in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Jackson Center.
