Biography

Ronald E. Powell, 80, of Boynton Beach, Florida and formerly of Logan County, Ohio passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 in the Delray Medical Center, Delray Beach, Florida.

He was born on August 1, 1936 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of the late Ralph and Mary Virginia (Merritt) Powell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Jamison Powell.

He is survived by his second wife, Alice (Tallman) Powell, whom he married on December 29, 1990 in Boca Raton, FL two sons; Jeff (Kim) Powell of Ashland, Ohio and Mike (Louanne) Powell of Wapakoneta, a step daughter, Carrie (Erik) Mack of Royal Palm Beach, Florida and a step son, Greg Shifflett of West Palm Beach, Florida, five grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one step great grandchild, a half-sister, Janet (Tim) Armentrout and a step sister, Reva Robinson, both of Zanesfield and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ron worked for Knowlton’s training horses for show before going to work for Rockwell in Bellefontaine. He retired from Indian Lake Schools, where he worked as a custodian and was well-known and loved by the kids, all who knew him as “Uncle Ron”. Ron also volunteered as a fireman in Lakeview several years back. He loved to strike up a conversation with others and never met a stranger.

A Gathering of Family & Friends will held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30p.m. at the Wapakoneta First United Methodist Church, 504 Glenwood Road,, Wapakoneta, OH 45895. Burial will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, Ohio.

Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine assisted the family with arrangements.
