She was born in Amsden, Ohio to the late Frank and Grace (Bennett) Barker, the oldest of four other children; Bill, Nancy, Alice and Keith. Alice Baughman, the lone survivor is married to Doug Baughman and they reside in DeGraff, OH.
In 1944, the Barker family moved to Bellefontaine and Mr. Barker setup his Allis Chalmers tractor and implement “barn” directly behind Schine’s Holland Theatre. The Barker Implement Store was owned and operated by Mr. Barker and Rosemary was his secretary.
Rosemary attended high school in Bellefontaine and graduated in 1946.
On November 28, 1948, Rosemary and Chuck Barton were united in marriage at the Bellefontaine First Church of God. They were the parents of three children; Jackie, Sherry and Jeff. Jackie (2007) and Sherry (2009) have both passed away and Jeff survives along with his wife Nicole, and son, Nikolas and daughter, Bella all living in Bellefontaine, five grandchildren: Brigett (Bill) Ruggles, Melissa (Jeff) Brock, Todd (Lori) Wilcoxon, Jonathan (Megan) Wilcoxon, and Sherri Carmichael, 13 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, all living in Virginia and a grandson, Marc (Jennifer) Johnson and three great grandchildren, all living in Arizona.
Rosemary has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As it says in her Bible, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” She has kept the faith and down through the years, she has served the Lord in many ways including serving as President of the Women’s Church of God organization for many years. She also taught Sunday School for over 30 years and was a charter member of the local Trexis Circle of Kings Daughters from 1950 to 2015. And last but not least, she was an active member and president of that great society of Grandmas.
Pastors Nate Wilcoxon, Ron Irick, and Ray Headings will officiate the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Bellefontaine First Church of God in Bellefontaine.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2019 from 4 to 7 P.M. also at the church, and again Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
