Roy A. Baker Jr.

Roy A. Baker Jr., of Jackson Center, passed away peacefully at his home on July 21, 2018.

Junior, so he was known, was born on January 24, 1928 to Roy Sr. and Carrie (Muehleisen) Baker, on a farm outside Maplewood.

Junior was married to LaDonna Kempfer on September 11, 1946, who preceded him in death on September 6, 2005.

Junior was a lifelong farmer and dairyman, who loved working in fields until his health declined. In his early days, he was a member of the Shelby County Mounted Patrol. He and his wife founded the Chuck Wagon Wranglers 4-H club, the first 4-H horse club, and were early members of the Shelby County Draft Horse Association. He had owned Belgian draft horses, which he would take to shows so people could see how plowing was done in the early times. He was also a member of the Shelby County Antique Power Association.

Junior is survived by his sons, Dale (Liz) Baker and Jerry (Brenda) Baker; his grandsons, Chad (Ruth) Baker, Jack (Annette) Baker, Luke (Sarah) Baker, and Adam Baker; his great grandchildren, Aubrey, Nora, Kate, Jared, Nathaniel, Tim, and Mason; a sister, Martha Jane Stryker; brother, Lloyd (Flora) Baker; sisters-in-law, Marlene Baker and Joy Baker; along with many nieces and nephews.  Junior will be greatly missed by family and friends, including his faithful dog, Mack.

Pastor Mike Mitchell will officiate a graveside service at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the Fairview Cemetery in Quincy.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Jackson Center.
