Roy H. Byler, 95, of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away at 8:20 A.M. Monday, October 7, 2013 at his residence.
He was born in Champaign County Ohio February 9, 1918, to the late Oliver Raymond and Rose Amanda (Stoltzfus) Byler. He was also preceded in death by a sister Mary Classen and two brothers, Floyd and Frank Byler.
On October 19, 1947, he married the former Ruby C. Fisher in West Liberty, and she survives.
He is also survived by their children, Richard (Penny) Byler of Greenville, Mississippi, Daniel Byler of Bangkok, Thailand, Rose (Don) Rosanova of Brookfield, Wisconsin, Deborah Byler of Elkhart, Indiana and David Byler of Sandstone, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Yoder of Goshen, Indiana; four brothers, Arthur Byler of Willowstreet, Pennsylvania, Robert (Lora) Byler of Hagerstown, Maryland, Elmore (Cheryl) Byler of Hiawassee, Georgia and Ellsworth (Evelyn) Byler of White Pigeon, Michigan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A retired dairy farmer and construction worker, Roy was a lifelong member of the Bethel Mennonite Church where he served several years as a chorister and Sunday school teacher. Roy was very focused on foreign missions. He and his wife Ruby enjoyed traveling, having visited all fifty states, Europe, South America and Israel. They also spent eleven years assisting in voluntary services in Brownsville, Texas. During World War II, he served with the Civilian Public Service.
Pastor Dave Maurer will conduct a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the Bethel Mennonite Church in West Liberty. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty. A private committal service will be held at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty at the convenience of the family.
The funeral arrangements were in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty.
