Roy L. Keeran, 91, of West Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He was born in Champaign County, Ohio on May 5, 1933, to the late Asa Eugene, Sr. and Mary Gladys (Vermillion) Keeran. He is also preceded in death by a son, Timothy Keeran; daughter-in-law, Patty Keeran; son-in-law, Gary Harman; and siblings: Asa Jr., Sara, Della, Geneva, and Charles.
As a result of the Great Depression, Roy was raised in the Champaign County Children’s Home in Urbana with several siblings.
68 years ago, he married his wife whom he adored and loved deeply, Zelda “Zettie” Zoe (Zook) Keeran and she survives.
He also leaves behind his children: Roy Lee Keeran, Jr., Jennie Harman, Peter (Deborah) Keeran, Stephen (Jane) Keeran, and Vincent Keeran; grandchildren: Joshua (Lauren), Jamie (Jeff), Lindsay, Amanda (Hal), Bradley (Ruth), and Lindsay (Markus); great grandchildren: Hudson, Patrick, Thackery, Aria, and Harper; brother, Richard (Sara) Keeran; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Urbana High School, Roy served in the United States Army as a Private 2nd Class in the 31st Infantry Division at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. He devoted 49 years of his life working in Urbana at Howard Paper Mill. Following his retirement, Roy was an avid bowler, competing in leagues well into his 80’s. He and his wife traveled to Europe, Mexico, and made yearly visits to the Carolina beaches. He was a great family provider and took much pride in his home, spending time in his yard planting trees and flowers. He loved his family and will be deeply missed.
Roy’s brother, Richard will officiate a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield Road, West Liberty. Visitation will be one hour prior from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in South Union Cemetery.
