Ruby Smith

Ruby I. Smith, 87, of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away Wednesday morning, August 22, 2012 at the Green Hills Center in West Liberty.

Ruby was born in Springfield, Ohio July 24, 1925, to the late Clay and Clara DeVoss Halterman. On January 20, 1951, she married Victor B. Smith and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by brothers Art and Raymond Halterman; a sister, Louise LaRue; brothers-in-law Ralph LaRue, Warren Craig and Dick Oelker, and a sister-in-law, Doris Halterman.

Ruby is survived by her children, Thomas K. (Nancy) Smith of West Liberty, Rita A. (Ron Grilliot) Rice of Greenville, Ohio, James L. (Brooke) Smith of West Liberty, Susan K. (James) Phillips of West Liberty, and John (Vikki) Venneman of Bellefontaine, Ohio; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Alberta Craig of Marysville, Ohio; sister-in-laws Kate Halterman of Urbana, Ohio and Carolyn Oelker of Bradenton, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby was a homemaker and enjoyed farm life, quilting and crafts.

A graveside service will be held Friday, August 24, 2012, at the Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Champaign County at 1:30 P.M. A calling hour will be held prior to the graveside service at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty from 12 noon to 1 P.M.
