Russell H. Nicely

Russell H. Nicely, age 86, of Lakeview, Ohio passed away Monday, October 23, 2017 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio.

He was born in Dayton, Ohio January 6, 1931, a son of the late George A. and Lillian R. (Smith) Nicely.  He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carol Jeanne Balsamo.

On June 17, 1960 in Dayton, Ohio, he married the former Janet M. Mikesell and she survives in Lakeview.  Also surviving is a son, Stephen A. (Cathy) Nicely of Lakeview and nieces, Cheri (Mike) Beecroft, Linda Balsamo and Jan (Bill) Young.

Russell was a 1949 graduate of Stivers High School in Dayton and graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education. He was a school teacher at Stiver’s High School and that is where he met his wife. He was a Senior Class Advisor and was inducted into the Stivers Hall of Fame in 2016. Russell loved to cook, garden, read and do crossword puzzles and belonged to Eagles #3615 and Moose Lodge, both at Indian Lake. He loved his family and extended family and had lived at Indian Lake and spent his winters in Englewood, Florida.

Per Mr. Nicely’s wishes, he was cremated and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

The staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
