Ruth Ann Gerber, age 83, of Jackson Center, Ohio, passed away at 9:29 P.M. Saturday, August 9, 2014 at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio.
She was born in Shelby County Ohio January 8, 1931, to the late Paul and Marjorie (Johnston) Kerns.
She was also preceded in death by her brother Richard Kerns.
On November 14, 1953, she married Wayne Gerber and he survives.
She is also survived by her children Jill (Rudy) Ruppert of Jackson Center, Tim (Jalynn) Gerber of Jackson Center, Kay (Phil) Schumann of Celina, Ohio, and Jukka Kaijalainen (foreign exchange student) of Helsinki, Finland; grandchildren, Christina (Brandt) Mann, Erica (Wes) Jackson, Heather (Zac) Barhorst, Nicole (David) Neubauer, Stephanie (Justin) Waples, Shawn Smith, Kinsey Schumann and Chad Schumann; great grandchildren, Haley, Caitlyn and Ethan Barhorst, Alaina and Courtney Mann, Samantha, Madison and Elijah Neubauer, Reagan and Elias Jackson, and Wyatt Waples, and many nieces and nephews.
A homemaker, Ruth Ann was very active in her community. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and Circle 2, and was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She had also volunteered for numerous organizations throughout her lifetime having served on the Shelby County Blood Bank, Wilson Hospital Auxiliary for thirty years, a thirty three year member and past president of the National Association of Conservation Auxiliary in the U.S., a forty year member and Past President of the Shelby County American Red Cross, a fifty year member of the Election Board and served many years on the Soil and Water Auxiliary, where she was selected as a National Winner of the Distinguished Service Award.
Pastor Kent Hollis will officiate the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 15, 2014, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center. Calling hours will be held Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 3 to 7 P.M. at the church and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday. Interment will be in the Pearl Cemetery.
The funeral arrangements were in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Jackson Center.
